Description of the method

Detailed description of the test procedure in the selected language.

Range: 10-150

Unit: 0C

Objects: liquid fuels and biofuels, other petroleum products and multifunkcional additives for fuels, biofuels and special applications

This test methods cover the determination of the flash point of petroleum products in the temperature range from 40 to 360 0C by an automated Pensky-Martens closed-cup apparatus.

Summary of Test Method: a brass test cup of specified dimensions, filled to the inside mark with test specimen and fitted with a cover of specified dimensions, is heated and the specimen stirred at specified rates, by either of two defined procedures (A or B). An ignition source is directed into the test cup at regular intervals with simultaneous interruption of the stirring, until a flash is detected. The flash point is reported as the lowest temperature corrected to a barometric pressure of 101,3 kPa (760 mm Hg), at which application of an ignition source causes the vapors of a specimen of the sample to ignite under specified conditions of test.

Object and temperature

Requirement acc.

Limited value of Flash Point

Diesel Fuels PN-EN 590 min. 55

FAME PN-EN 14214 min. 101

Light heating fuels PN-C-96024 min. 56

Heavy heating fuels PN-C-96024 min. 62

Procedure A is applicable to distillate Fuels (diesel, kerosine, heating oil, turbine fuels), new lubricating oils, and other homogeneous petroleum liquids not included in the scope of Procedure B. Procedure B is applicable to residual fuels oil, cutback residua, used lubricating oils, mixtures of petroleum liquids that tend to form a surface film under test conditions, or petroleum liqiuds of such kinemastc viscosity that they are not uniformly heated under the stirring and heating conditions of Procedure A.
